In different “bright green design” exhibitions the project Partners of BerliNordik CREATE BERLIN, the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ) and INPOLIS UCE GmbH present Eco-Design from Berlin and the Nordic countries.Given that the design industry creates and visualises trends and visions – and, thereby, reaches a very broad public audience – it comes to the fore to anchor sustainability and social responsibility in everyday consciousness. BerliNordik is an investment in the future for everyone involved, which includes both the upcoming generation of designers, and current as well as future consumers. Conducting business in a truly responsible way and keeping an eye out for the future also demands that those working in the design industry foster new ways of working, new principles, an intense exchange of knowledge and the use of innovative and alternative materials and technologies.

Product Design exhibition “bright green design” June 9th – 13th 2010
At the product design exhibition bright green designn, which will take place as part of the DMY International Design Festival Berlin to be held between June 8th and 13th, 2010, BerliNordik will join together with CREATE BERLIN, the International Design Center (IDZ) and INPOLIS to showcase young and sustainable product design from Berlin and the Nordic countries.

5 Berlin designers provide, with their objects and concepts, an insight into different ways of sustainable design solutions. The other 30 design submissions of Berlin designers will be presented in a mind map.

Fashion and Product Design exhibition “bright green design” July 8th – 11th, 2010
The second exhibition will be shown in the glamorous atrium of Deutsche Bank ‘Unter den Linden’ during the Berlin Fashion Week 8th – 11th July, 2010. 10 Nordic and Berlin fashion designers will present their vision of Eco-Fashion in the Premium segment. Likewise, the product design objects will complete the biggest Berlin exhibition on Eco-Fashion and Product Design.

The city leaves most other cities behind because of its development in architecture, design, fashion and gourmet food. Also the Copenhagen’s public transportation, bicycle culture, harbour baths, green public spaces and trendy cafes contribute to a high quality of life. Not least Copenhagen manages to integrate design in everyday life to make life easy and friction-free for residents as well as visitors.

Another strongpoint is Copenhagen’s undeniably seamless urban planning, paving the way for the mobility, and ultimately, the happiness of its residents. Copenhagen is “designed for life”.

A liveable city
Copenhagen has adopted a wide range of strategies to ensure that we remain one of the World’s most liveable city.

Firstly, we want to be the Climate Capital of the world – the capital with the best urban environment. We will find smart solutions to the challenges of the future that will make it easy for Copenhageners to be climate friendly. This effort also includes initiatives aiming at promoting green urban mobility.

Secondly, we will ensure that Copenhagen remains a diverse and safe city. Ethnic diversity has the potential to improve Copenhagen’s status as a large city in a constantly changing, diversified world. The interaction of Copenhageners with different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds makes the city a more rewarding place, and boosts the linguistic and cultural skills needed to face the challenge posed by globalisation.

Finally, affordable housing is necessary if Copenhagen is to meet the challenge of providing qualified labour, limiting road traffic congestion and ensuring that Copenhagen remains a socially cohesive city.

Creativity
Copenhagen wishes to become an international creative metropolis with optimal conditions for creative business. The City of Copenhagen is therefore working on a series of initiatives, Creative Forum for one, and collaborating with the Danish Fashion Institute about the development of creative business in Copenhagen is another.

Copenhagen’s creative business life spans wide from design, film, music and fashion to computer game development and theatre productions. In the city’s capacity of Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen is a natural magnet for many creative Danish businesses and artists; however there are still plenty of reasons for establishing Copenhagen as a creative, metropolis internationally as well as nationally.

In order for Copenhagen to develop as a creative metropolis, it is necessary to ensure a constantly lively and vibrant atmosphere where creative businesses can develop. This is why the City of Copenhagen has set up Creative Forum which is to function as think tank and consultee for the City and to make suggestions for initiatives that will ensure the best conditions for Copenhagen’s creative business life.

Today, fashion has become a selling point for Copenhagen, a city that is striving to position itself on the creative world map. In its capacity as a platform for the fashion industry, Copenhagen occupies the leading position in Northern Europe today but has aspirations of becoming the world’s fifth fashion capital after Paris, London, New York and Milan.

Copenhagen welcomes the World in 2009
Copenhagen will host a number of major international events in 2009. The most important one will be the UN Climate Change Conference in December 2009. We see this as a welcoming opportunity to put climate change at the top of the agenda. We want to be the Climate Capital of the world – the capital with the best urban environment. We will find smart solutions to the challenges of the future that will make it easy for Copenhageners to be climate friendly.

Copenhagen also welcomes the World of sports in 2009 as we are the host of the Olympic Congress and the 2009 Outgames.

For 40 years, Dr.Hauschka Skin Care has stood for pure, authentic natural cosmetics. The brand of WALA Heilmittel GmbH is strongly committed to sustainable business practices and supports the efforts of the fashion industry in particular towards achieving environmentally friendly and socially responsible production. As a result, Dr.Hauschka Skin Care is pleased to announce its support of the BerlINordik Road Show, which through a range of workshops, fashion shows and presentations highlights the creative potential and innovations of the participating cities of Copenhagen (designer workshop from 26 to 27 August) and Berlin (designer workshop from 4 to 6 May), with a focus on sustainable products, production and technology as well as corporate social responsibility.

“All areas of our lives should be characterised by sustainability,” says Katharina Hahlhege, member of the Management Board of WALA Heilmittel GmbH, where she is responsible for sales and marketing. “By supporting the fashion show organised by BerlINordik during the Copenhagen Design Week on 28 August with our products, we hope to send a signal that treating nature with respect is possible in business – whether it involves the fashion industry or the cosmetics field. We are pursuing the same goal.”

Dr.Hauschka has successfully worked with the fashion industry a number of times in recent years. The German cosmetics brand made a splash at Bread & Butter Berlin and Barcelona, as well as through its co-operation with the Kaviar Gauche international fashion label, which led to the creation of the environmentally friendly Dr.Hauschka Cosmetic Bag in 2007.

While there have been apostles of the environmental movement for many years, few companies have devoted themselves to the protection of the planet and its people since the inception of the movement. hessnatur is one of those rare companies.

Founded 33 years ago by the European environmentalist Heinz Hess, the company creates organic and natural clothing. The design aesthetic of hessnatur mirrors the primarily organic fabrics that are grown and processed without harmful chemicals and toxins. A commitment to preserving the land, water and health of the people who produce and wear all hessnatur apparel reflects the essence of the brand: “clothes are more than what you wear, they’re how you choose to live.”

In 2007, the renowned designer Miguel Adrover became the Creative Director of hessnatur. Adrover views fashion as a medium for social messages. “A social message has always been necessary in my design. There is no more important message than taking care of nature and human beings. This is what hessnatur does. It is their essence – and mine.”

Creative Forum consists of representatives from different creative sectors in Copenhagen: cultural and creative industries (both established and new companies), artists with strong entrepreneurship and project experience, fiery souls and leaders of different cultural projects, analytical institutes and educational institutes as well as the three mayors: Lord Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard, Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs Klaus Bondam and the Mayor of Culture and Leisure Pia Allerslev.
THE TASK
Creative Forum’s main task is to give recommendations to the City of Copenhagen that can strengthen the overall framework conditions for the creative industries. Also Creative Forum is to function as a hearing partner for the City of Copenhagen concerning the conditions for the creative industries. As a sort of cross sectoral trade association Creative Forum collects knowledge and works for improvement of the specific business conditions for the creative industries.

A clear identification and overview over the most significant boosters and inhibitors a cross the different creative sectors is a necessary starting point for the concrete recommendations that Creative Forum has developed.??In addition to the general view it is important for Creative Forum to adjust specific problems and recommendations in respecting different sizes of companies, well- or newly established companies, material or immaterial products and private or public funded companies.
